Bihar Board Awards 2 Marks to Class 10 Student in Hindi, RTI Inquiry Reveals he Scored 79

Patna, Nov 18: The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) declared a student failed after giving him 2 marks in Hindi subject. However, when he challenged the result through an RTI inquiry, he came out with flying colours. The investigation revealed that the Bihar board had awarded 2 marks to class 10 student Dhananjay Kumar in the Hindi subject. The revised marks revealed that he had actually scored 79 marks in the subject.
Speaking to news agency ANI, Kumar said that he wanted to take admission in the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) but couldn’t since his result had declared him failed. “My dreams are shattered now. I wanted to commit suicide but my family helped me,” he said. (Also Read: Hundreds of Bihar Class 12 students protest against being failed, demand re-checking)

The RTI inquiry said that Dhananjay Kumar had scored 84.2 per cent, 421 marks out of 500, in the class 10 board exams. Before the investigation, Kumar was awarded 2 numbers in Hindi instead of 79, reducing total marks to 344. “He is declared failed. We have been running to the authorities for past six months. He is not able to study properly,” Dhananjay’s brother told ANI.
In October, the Bihar board had failed another student after mixing up her answer-scripts with someone else’s. She was given 9 out of 100 in Sanskrit and 29 out of 80 in science theory exam. The investigation revealed that she had scored 80 in Sanskrit and 61 in Science. Bihar Board admitted its mistake, pulled out her original papers and revised the marks.
