The  Substratum  Theme Engine was updated yesterday to version 953, bringing support for Sony Xperia phones running Nougat and revamping the design for the Theme Showcase among other things. Perhaps the most welcome change for Sony Xperia owners still on Nougat is the ability to apply Substratum themes in “legacy mode.” As a reminder, it was Sony who first developed the Runtime Resource Overlay and later the Overlay Manager Service for Xperia phones and contributed the  code to AOSP , which is what makes Substratum work on other phones as well. Redmi 5  and  Redmi 5 Plus  smartphones were launched by the Chinese manufacturer at an event in Beijing on Thursday. The smartphones bear similar designs and some common specifications, however, there are some prominent differences, from screen size to the choice of processor being used. The highlight features of the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus include the use of an 18:9 display aspect ratio, giving an immersive wide-screen effect that according to  Xiaomi  is better for gaming and media consumption, apart from a soft-toned selfie light for improved low-light photography. I'm not sure how many of our readers are pilots, but here goes anyway. Garmin has updated its Pilot app for Android to version 6.2, and with it comes a bunch of new features. I won't pretend I know what any of it really means, but I'll try to summarise the new additions as best I can. The update includes Chart Overlays, which allows users of Garmin FliteCharts to "overlay instrument procedures on the moving map." The layer order and opacity of this can easily be changed, too. Oppo  on Monday announced its partnership with Flipkart to launch the F3 Plus 6GB variant in India. The new smartphone model will go on sale in the country with a price tag of Rs. 22,990 starting Thursday, November 16. Originally, the  F3 Plus  was  debuted in the Indian market  with 4GB RAM back in March at a price of Rs. 30,990. Xiaomi on Thursday announced the roll out of its custom ROM MIUI 9 for users. The Android-based ROM was announced in July and has been exclusively available to beta testers. With MIUI 9, Xiaomi says its focus has been on making the app launches faster along with delivering a smoother interface with minimum latency. As announced previously, MIUI 9 brings a slew of new features such as split screen, improved notification panel and new icon animations. After a long hiatus,  Paranoid Android made a solid return  to the custom ROM scene back in May of this year, bringing Android 7.1.2 Nougat-based builds with carefully-crafted features like Pie Controls and Color Engine to a range of supported devices.
