The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has said that Aadhaar - the 12-digit identity number based on the biometrics data of an individual - can be obtained at any age. The government has announced December 31, 2017 as the deadline to link Aadhaar card or UID with PPF. Aadhaar card, the identity card containing the 12-digit UID or Unique Identity Number , is now essential for carrying out a number of tasks. Aadhaar card has to be linked with small savings schemes like Kisan Vikas Patra and PPF (Public Provident Fund) to bank accounts. Applying for a PAN (Permanent Account Number) card also requires quoting of Aadhaar.
