Are the New Jio Postpaid Plans Good Enough to Compete With Airtel Postpaid Plans? Let’s Find Out

Reliance Jio has updated its tariff plans yesterday, and increased the price of the plans, as expected. The new plans offer similar benefits as earlier, but the price is now increased a bit. Jio has updated both prepaid and postpaid tariff plans. And the company’s tariff plans are now on-par with incumbent telecom operators plans from Airtel, Idea Cellular, BSNL, and Vodafone in the prepaid segment.

When it comes to postpaid segment, the tariff plans are underwhelming and falter in front of Airtel’s recently updated myPlan Infinity postpaid plans. Bharti Airtel is offering more postpaid data to stay in contention with Reliance Jio and with the recent price increase, the war has got even better now. Let’s find out which operator is offering better postpaid plans between Airtel and Reliance Jio.

Reliance Jio

Reliance Jio’s postpaid tariff plans start at Rs. 309 and go all the way up to Rs. 999. The entry-level Rs. 309 plan gives 1GB data per day and unlimited voice calls for 30 days. It also offers unlimited SMS per month and access to Jio premium apps. Similar to the Rs. 309 plan, there are Rs. 509 and Rs. 799 plans, which gives 2GB data per day and 3GB data per day for 30 days, making it 60GB and 90GB data respectively.

So, if you’re looking for non-FUP plans, Jio is offering two plans of Rs. 409 and Rs. 999, which gives 20GB data and 60GB data respectively for 30 days or per billing cycle. And all the plans offer unlimited voice calls and access to Jio apps.

Bharti Airtel

Talking about the myPlan Infinity postpaid plans of Airtel, they start from Rs. 399 and go all the way up to Rs. 2,999. So, the Rs. 399 plan offers 10GB data per billing cycle, and roaming outgoing calls are charged as per base rates. The Rs. 499 tariff plan gives 20GB data, and like the Rs. 399 plan, roaming outgoing calls will be charged as per the base plan.

From Rs. 649 plan, Airtel is offering all the calls for free- incoming roaming and outgoing calls. The Rs. 649 plan offers 30GB data, Rs. 799 plan gives 40GB data and Rs. 999 plan offers 50GB data, and data keep on increasing with the premium plans. Conclusion

Clearly, Jio offers more data than Airtel and the fact that the base plans of Rs. 309 and Rs. 409 also offer unlimited voice calls is something Airtel needs to address. However, advantages for Jio end there.

The primary disappointment with Jio is the daily FUP. Out of the five plans available, three plans have daily FUP limit, and Airtel doesn’t have any daily limit. Users can consume all the data in a single day, and they can even use it accordingly. Furthermore, another advantage with Airtel is the carry forward data feature, which is an added bonus.

If you’re a user of the Airtel Rs. 649 plan, you get 30GB data per month, and you may not use the entire 30GB in a single month. This is where the carry forward data comes into play as it carries the unused data from this month, and adds it to next month along with the new month’s data.

In this regard, Airtel comes on top, especially in a long run. And with Airtel, you do not need to worry about running out of daily FUP. Apart from the voice calls segment, Reliance Jio’s postpaid plans fall short of Airtel’s myPlan Postpaid plans.
