Yu Yureka 2 is Here With Snapdragon 625 SoC, 4GB RAM, and 3930mAh Battery; All Yours at Rs. 11,999

Yu Televentures, the child brand of Micromax has announced a new smartphone in the Indian market. Named as the Yu Yureka 2, it comes as a successor to the two-year-old Yu Yureka. This smartphone offers great specifications at an attractive price of Rs. 11,999.

Yu has been silent for the most part of last year, which the company is calling as ‘observing the market.’ However, since the start of this year, the brand has been launching phones in an array, especially aimed at Xiaomi’s Redmi range of devices. The Yu Yureka 2 is aimed at the country’s best selling smartphone, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4.

Also, the specs of the device are on-par with the Redmi Note 4. The Yureka 2 offers a 5.5-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The display has a 2.5D curved glass on top. Internally, it is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset, which works in tandem with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

The onboard storage is expandable up to 128GB with a microSD card. Sadly, it is a hybrid card slot and not a dedicated slot. In contrast, the Redmi Note 4’s top-end model comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, but it costs Rs. 12,999.

The Yureka 2 also has a fingerprint sensor located at its back, within reach of the index finger. Optics wise, the Yureka 2 offers a 16MP rear camera with dual tone LED flash. For selfie lovers, the smartphone packs a decent 8MP camera.

Connectivity options in the smartphone include 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, and micro USB port. The device also has a beefy 3930mAh battery.

All these specs seem powerful on paper, but the major let down with this device is Yu has gone with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, which is extremely dated in 2017. The company did not reveal any plans about releasing the Android 7.1 Nougat update for the Yureka 2, but it might happen by the end of this year.

As said earlier, the smartphone is priced at Rs. 11,999 and comes in a single Gold colour option. This device is exclusive to Flipkart.

YU courageously launches Yureka 2 running Android 6.0 Marshmallow

Today YU took the wraps off its latest creation for the Indian market, the Yureka 2. Despite what its name may allege, this is in fact the sixth Yureka-branded phone, following the original Yureka, the Yureka Plus, the Yureka NoteYureka S, and Yureka Black.

The Yureka 2 boasts a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS touchscreen, the Snapdragon 625 chipset with 2 GHz octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, and a 3,930 mAh battery.

Its main camera is a 16 MP unit with LED flash, while selfies are taken care of by an 8 MP shooter up front. A fingerprint sensor is on the phone's back, and 4G LTE support is built-in. The Yureka 2's dimensions are 152.6 x 76.5 x 8.15 mm. It will become available on September 20, exclusively from Flipkart, for INR 11,999 ($186 or €156 at the current exchange rates).

There's just one problem here. The YU Yureka 2 will arrive on the market running Android 6.0 Marshmallow. That version of the OS launched in 2015. Two years ago. Devices which are supported directly by Google are already on Android 8.0 Oreo. Will the Yureka 2's affordable price point make people ignore this fact? We'll have to wait and see.
