Nokia 8 teardown shows repairs are tricky but doable

Nokia 8  already went through the grueling  burn and bend tests  of  JerryRigEverything  and lived, but what if it didn’t? How hard would it be to repair a component that broke or failed? Well, nothing like a comprehensive teardown to answer that question. The phone is certainly well-built, but a novice will have a hell of a time trying to repair it. The first obstacle is the screen, which is glued down. Below that things are mostly held down with screws and plenty of them – 30 in total with different sizes and one standoff screw. The copper heat pipe is interesting. It’s pretty big, but it does not go over the chipset. Instead the chipset (covered with thermal paste) transfers heat to the aluminum skeleton of the phone and then the heat goes through the aluminum to the copper. An odd configuration to be sure, but the phone never got hot during our testing so it must be working. Watch the video below to see the venerable snake nest of cables that con...

New OnePlus 5T leak gives us another look at the slim bezels

Following a handful of leaks in the past month or so, we’re expecting the OnePlus 5T to drop pretty much any day now. Today, reliable leaker  Evan Blass has posted another new image  of the alleged device. This latest image mirrors  some of the previous leaks , but with quite a bit more detail. Obviously, the standout change in design here is the slimmer bezels, as the company is widely expected to adopt a larger, 18:9 6-inch display. OnePlus  previously mentioned  that the OnePlus 5 didn’t adopt the “bezel-less” trend when it debuted early this year due to resources, but clearly, the company has been able to up its game since then. As with those previous renders, the OnePlus 5T doesn’t seem like it’s going to quite match the look of the  Galaxy S8  or even the  LG V30 , but it’s certainly a slimmer design when it comes to the bezels. This latest render doesn’t give us a look at the bottom of the phone, but we’re ...

Asus ZenFone 4 family arrives in North America

Asus’ ZenFone 4 smartphone family is now available  in North America. The family includes  the ZenFone 4 Pro, ZenFone 4, and ZenFone 4 Max . The Taiwanese company typically releases its products abroad before they become available in the US. The three phones all have dual rear cameras and run on Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. The ZenFone 4 Pro, the most high-end option of the three, costs $599 and boasts 6GB of RAM, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, and a bigger battery capacity than the other two phones. It also has a 1920 x 1080 OLED display. Meanwhile, the ZenFone 4, which costs $399, is the only phone in the family with color options. It comes in midnight black or moonlight white, which sound a lot fancier than the Google Pixel 2’s down-to-earth options of kinda blue, just black, and clearly white. In the end, though, it’s still just black and white. Spec-wise, it’s largely similar to the Pro, but doesn’t have the OLED, runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processo...

Google Calculator v7.4 switches to blue accent color, improves history screen and main display [APK Download]

Green is gone, blue is new. That's the mantra for today's update to Google's Calculator app. But it's not just a palette swap on the agenda, there are actually several other little changes scattered around the UI. There are changes to the history screen, RAD/DEG toggle, and there are even a couple things taken out. What's New Unofficial Changelog: (the stuff we found) Blue icon and control drawer RAD / DEG can be toggled from the main display Blue color scheme Unless you haven't used Google's Calculator app in a few years, you'll probably notice the first change right away. The launcher icon and button drawer (inside the app) have been given a fresh coat of paint. The classic (seafoam?) green has been swapped for blue.       Left:  v7.3.  Right:  v7.4. RAD / DEG toggle in main display The remaining changes are pretty hidden and you might miss them if you're not looking closely. The first new feature is a toggle on ...
